THAMES PLAYGROUND.

DIAMOND JUBILEE RESERVE. WORK TO BE COMMENTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) THAMES, this day. The proposal to establish, a children's playground in Queen Street on land held as a reserve was advanced to finality last evening, when the committee met to discuss the engineer's proposals to the Borough Council. It may be remembered that the Diamond Jubilee Committee set out to gather funds for this purpose in 1927; and donations showered in, and as the result of the jubilee festivities £31-3 was in hand. The engineer's estimate for preparing the ground, the building, a restroom and the supply equipment was The Jubilee Committe had given £'6o towards the Tararu bathing sheds, leaving £260 in hand, which, with a promised Government subsidy made £-3GO ; leaving a deficiency uf £124. It is understood that donations for equipment had already been promised and it is hoped that more will be given. In the meantime the engineer was authorised to go as far as funds would allow. The location is on the seaward side of Queen Street, close to the south railway station. The ground will bo planted with hedges and with deciduous trees on the street frontage.
