CONDITIONS BAD.

WILKINS IN ANTARCTIC. (Australian Press Assn. — United Service.) (Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, January 9. A copyright message from Sir Hubert Wilkins, the Australian explorer, now at Deception Island, states: "The weather is colder and the surface harder. Wo hope to take off from the land using skis but the atmosphere is at present unfavourable for exploration. A fog renders visibility very poor. We tried yesterday to hear Commander Byrd's station without success."
