MODEL MAORI PA.
SITE ON MOUNT EDEN NEITHER SHARK NOR TUNA. EARLY START PROPOSED. "Early in tlie New Year a start will be made with the construction of the proposed model Maori pa, near the summit of Mount Eden," said Mr. George Graham this morning. He added that although the matter had been delayed there was no intention to shelve it. Mr. Graham said that the matter was brought to a certain point by Te Akarana Maori Association in conjunction wit hthe Mount Eden Borough Council, and that the sympathy and help of a large number of natives, including Sir A. Ngata, had been enlisted. He added that there had been a number of objections to the proposal, but they were not well founded. The chosen site could not in any way obscure the general view frofll the summit, and the pa could be traversed from end to end by the present old Maori track which ran through the site. "There will be no Maoris living there, and neither tuna nor shark strung on poles," said Mr. Graham. "All that we wish to do is to restore an old fortification to its original condition, and to preserve for all time something which will be both educative and attractive."
