BADLY GUTTED.
FIRE IN REMUERA HOUSE CARD PARTY FINDS BACK PART BLAZING. Fire considerably damaged the washhouse, kitchen and passage of the home of Mr. A. F. Moginie, 20, Lucerne Road, Remuera, just before 11 o'clock last evening. When the Remuera and Parnell brigades turned out, the house, a six-roomed one, was blazing fiercely, and it was only the quick work of the firemen which saved complete destruction. In the front of the house Mr. and Mrs. Moginie were playing cards with visitors when the fire started in the wash-house at the back. The first sounds of crackling were not paid attention to by the party, but when they became persistent, Mr. Moginie investigated. At that time the back part of the house was a mass of flames. The telephone wiring had been burned, but Mrs. Moginie sent a call from a nearby house. In the meantime Mr. Moginie, with the help of friends, gathered together personal belonging and left the house, which by this time was full of smoke. The firemen had the outbreak under control quickly and made a fine save. Besides the part which was gutted, damage was done to three other rooms by smoke and water. The house was insured for* £1500 and the contents for £250 in the Alliance Assurance Company, Ltd. •
