BILLIARDS IN ENGLAND. NEW RECORD BY W. SMITH. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, November 25. Willie Smith, playing against Tom Newman at Manchester, made a record break of 2743, including an entire session of solo play. Fred Lindrum, in his billiards match with Inman on Friday afternoon, did not reach his top form. Often he had to struggle to gain a top of the table position. He spoilt one or two promising situations. In the evening he improved greatly, and made four big breaks. One included 41 close cannons. His day's total was 1436 to Inman's 976. Yesterday afternoon Lindrum seemed to be too eager to excel the previous evening's excellent display. He took liberties which spoilt several of hie visits to the table. Inman, who four times left Lindrum double-baulks, gave a fine display last evening. • Lindrum made the best of every opening, and was unlucky to spoil the biggest break of the day by miscuing a little screwback cannon. Lrtnan leads at the halfway stage by 646 points.
