YACHTING.
TAMAKI YACHT CLUB.
The Tainaki Yacht Club held its first series of races on Saturday off Kohimarama, when some keen racing was seen in the small boat classes catered for by this club. The races were timed to start at 2.40 p.m., but at this hour only Tui was on the line. The rest of the fleet could be seen spread 'over the upper harbour doing their best to make down to the starting line against a flood tide and a very light breeze. As the boats were so late getting to the line, the officers of the day decided to defer the starts one hour and to make i the course once round, the handicaps 1 being halved. When they did get away the racing was close and interesting, especially in the M class, which was won by Matarere by 1!) seconds from Manene. Jn the T and X class Kismet beat the new Jellicoe boat Val home by only 18 seconds. In the Z class, only 9 seconds separated Delphine from Ace, a new boat. In the Y class Opah finished first and got another win, beating Jupiter by 2m 2os. Drone won the V class easily. In the outboard event Mr. Townsend's Miss Arawa beat Miss Tainaki and Miss Stanley, and won with 3ii seconds to spare on handicap, after giving a good exhibition of speed.
