MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION GATE TAKINGS A RECORD. AWARDS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS. Auckland's 6eventy-fifth jubilee show closed on Saturday with a flourish of trumpets — it had been a complete success from the financial point of view. Over 12,000 people watched the ring events during the afternoon, the chief attractions being the excellent jumping competitions, military events and steer-riding. The crowd was one of the largest In the history of the A. and P. Association, the frate receipts for the two days being £1003. Following is a comparison of the gat* takings at recent summer shows, excluding the Royal Show of 1926, when the total for the two days was £2449:— 1923 —First day £156, second day £846; total, £1003. 1927—First day £132, second day £854; total, £986. 1925—First day £61, second day £564; total, £625. 1924—First day, £99, second day, £624; total, £723. The Dominion hunter event attracted an entry of 15 horses, some of which are among the best known hunters in the Auckland province. After a perfect round, Mr. A. M. Samuel's El Arish proved his undisputed title to the big event. The judge recalled Miss Thelma Morrin's Absent, Mr. Ben M. Myers* Heather Bell, Mi&j C. Sutherland's Verona, and Miss L. Johnson's Spark, i In the jump-off Heather Bell took second place and Absent third. The judge could not separate Spark and Verona for fourth place.

The judge .of the town horse section (Mr. W. J. Campbell, of Hawke's Bay), on Saturday, said he had never seen such fine animals in any other part of Xew Zealand. In his opinion any of the exhibits would be prize winners In any show in the Southern Hemisphere. He complimented the head stableman and drivers o~ the general turn-out of the teams.
