(Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 1.30 p.m.) STOCKHOLM, November 13. The Nobel Prize for literature for 1927 has been awarded to Henri Bergson, and the 1928 prize to Sijrrid Undset, the Xorwegi&n woman novelist.
Professor Henri Louise Bergson, of Paris, is considered one of the greatest of living philosophers. He has held many important professorships since 1881, au>i was professor at the College of France. Among his books which have given rise to much discussion are "Matter and Memory," "Laughter," and a noteworthy analysis of evolution.
Sigrid Undset was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for literature, which she was awarded in 1925. The earlier award was considered the more remarkable in view of the fact that others considered for the prize were Thomas Hardy, Thomas Mann, and Olaf Dun.
