MISSING MEAT.
ROBBERY IN PARK ROAD. BUTCHER'S SHOP ENTERED. GOODS WORTH £o STOLEN.
A thief, who broke into Mr. William Bowden's pork butcher shop in Park Road last night, cleared the butchery of the entire stock of meat and pickles. This comprised a large side of bacon, about half a dozen legs of mutton and many jars of pickles, valued at about £o. Fortunately for Mr. Bowden, he receives his stock of meat early every morning, otherwise the thief would have got a bigger haul.
The gauze door was cut through an<l a glass panel smashed out of the second door, enabling the lock to be turned. An unsuccessful attempt was made to force the till open, but this only contained 6/ in coppers. Evidently the thief was disturbed while at work, for Mr. Bowden's several knives and case were left stacked up ready to take away.
