NORTHCOTE BUS FARES.
COUNCIL DECLINES TO INTERFERE
The Northcote Ratepayers and Residents' Association forwarded to the Borough Council a petition received protesting against the recent increase in omnibus fares by the local company and requesting an appeal be lodged, but the association wished it understood that it was expressing 110 opinion 011 the merits of the case. It was stated that fourteen days were allowed in which to lodge an appeal, and that this period had elapsed. It was decided to point out to the association that the petition should have been sent to the No. 2 Licensing Authority. which is the tribunal before whom such matters are heard. An amendment by Mr. A. T. Munn, who stated 91 ratepayers' signatures were on the petition, was seeonfSed by the Mayor (Mr. A. E. Greenslade), to the effect that reconsideration be suggested to the Licensing Authority and a full investigation be undertaken as to whether the increases were necessary under all the circumstances.
