TOWN BOARD MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent) PAPAKURA, Monday.
The regular meeting of the Papakur* Town Board was held this evening, th» chairman (Mr. Jas. McCall) presiding.
A complaint was received regarding a dog that was doing a good amount of "worrying" around the vicinity of Wet lington Street. The board decided to have the dog destroyed by one of its employees. The board decided to have all traffic signs erected, and decided to employ % part-time inspector to control traffic. Th* traffic committee was of the opinion that a full-time inspector was not warranted. Regarding 'bus steps, the board, after carefully inspecting the proposed sitefc recommended five bus etops, and decided to outline the stops. A taxi stand has been placed in th* centre of Broadway. The -bathing sheds have been repaired on Prince Edward Park. A footpath has been formed oa the western side of Kelvin Road. The works committee recommended thafc tenders be called for formation work required on Wellington Street. Thie recommendation was given effect to. The works committee reported that Cosgrave Road must be rolled, and recoi*» mended that an eight-ton road roller th«fc is for sale by the Franklin County cil be inspected. The recommendation was acceded to, and authority for pur» chase given. The board instructed the foreman t% bring down an estimate for the construction of the footpath in Elliott Street on the south side from East Street t» Wood Street.
The financial position of the board M very sound. It started, the financial year with a credit balance of £760, and aft the present time has a credit balance ot £118, whereas last -year at this time the board had an overdraft of nearly £1000. A sum of £312 had been spent on a grader and tractor. Fines totalling £204 were received through the Court. The board's finance committee had made a careful examination, and were making a very careful effort to recover all rates. The board generally was in a verysound financial position compared with other years. It -as decided to employ a qualified man for a few weeks to use the grader in shaping up the summer, and other roads.
_Mr: W. Rhind, reporting on aa interview with the Auckland district traffic manager, stated that be had every belief that the workers' train which leaves Auckland at 4.15 will run to Papakura instead of Papatoetoe, in the near future. The board decided to pipe five chaina of Grove Road drain from Grove Road eastward to Bunnythorpe Road.
