POWER SUPPLY.
MEETING OF AUCKLAND BOARD
ACCEPTANCE OF TENDERS.
LOAN FOR EXTENSIONS.
At yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Electric Power Board presided over by Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, tenders for cable required to make up the board's store quantities were considered. The tenders of the Rudge Electrical Co. for the supply of overhead cable at £765 and of the Lawrence and Hansen Electrical Co. at £1828 were accepted on the basis of the copper being priced at £70 a ton.
-It was stated that the price of copper was at. present at saturation point, but the latter basis would be satisfactory to the board. The contractors could hold the supplies till the price of copper receded. Mr. Holdsworth said it would be foolish to accept the cable at the present price.
It was reported that no objections had been raised to the proposal to borrow £675,000 for general extensions to the board's undertaking, and that application had been made to the Local Government Loans Board for its sanction to take a poll on the question.
