MR. FLETCHER CHEERED.
AGAINST CUTTING WAGES.
Mr. J. S. Fletcher, United party candidate for Grey Lynn, addressed a, crowded audience in the Jubilee Hall, Kjngsland, last evening, Mr. J. H. Langley, Deputy-Mayor of Mount Albeit, niosidiiijr. Mr. Fletcher said he was definitely againyt cutting wages. In regard to the steamer Maui Pomare the candidate said if European seamen were suffering from reduced wages then sometiiing should be done about it. The principle was wrong. He had'always been against 9/ and 12/ a day being paid to unemployed on relief .works, a.nd. when a national work h*d to be done and paid for by taxation, then the men engaged on that work should receive' standard rates or wages. Mr. Fletcher criticised the Reform policy and received a vote of confidence which was carried amidst cheers.
