TROTTING.

PREPARIHG FOR SATURDAY.

WORK AT EPSOM AND OTAHUHU.

With only four days to go before the Otahuhu meeting opens, trainers at Ep- > som this morning took advantage of ths favourable conditions to exercise their horses, and some interesting work was witnessed. The track was in good order. Lady Stepney (Millen) was sent eeveral l-ounds. The chestnut mare trotted solidly, but was not doing her best Koniniwood (Nicholson) stepped a ■ mile in saddle, going at an even pace all the way. Uncle Bert was given free-legged easy work in saddle. The three-year-old, Bloss Audnboa. who has been away from Epsom since he raced in the Derby, put in an appearance again this morning. Driven by A. Lawrence, he covered about a mile and a-half at three-quarter speed. Colonel Thorpe (Lee) was sprinted odd furlongs with others who were working. The big gelding looks well. The Shrew (Head) was not hoppled - up, and put in three-quarter pace work over several circuits. She will be worked with the straps to-morrow. Medusa (A. Julian) was sent a mile and a-quarter. The bay mare paecd nicely, but the time was only fair. Goldman, who has brightened up daring the past month, worked nicelv without being asked to go at top. W. Clifton sent his pair, Dad's Hope and Halgana. along for a mile and aquarter. Both paced freely. Dad's Hope palling- liard. Great Way (Kinnamont) spoiled an otherwise attractive piece of trotting by putting in one break.

Golden Huia (Julian) was eent a mile and a-half. The chestnut trotted fairly well in patches, but went to a break, and the display wae not very good.

The most interesting workout -was accoiupliohed when Gold Jacket (McMahon), Xelson Tasker (Ayres), and War plane (Shaw) were associated. Geld Jacket stepped off at the mile and a-kalf peg, and when he had gone five furtoage Nekon Tasker and Warplane joined in. Nelson Tasker took tip tie Tunning with Warplane trailing them, and eo they ran for a mile. Then Warplane ns ep to hie companions, but after goiog about nine furlongs he was palled n>. Xelson Taeker and Gold Jacket then ran locked together to the mile peat, where they were pulled up. Nelson Tasker went just on a mile and a-fcalf, and Gold Jacket two miles. It was tie best workout of the morning. Nelson Dillon (Lee) had the hoppke on, and paced evenly in the task allotted him. • Carberly (Julian) was given useful exercise, but little was aeked of Bolfe Audubon. E. Sandall worked his pair, Tradesman and Margaret Wallace, separately. Alice Axworthy (S. August) and Ursuline (R. August) worked together for a mile. Both paced nicely. T. Roe drove his trotters, Gold Sovereign and Roez, separately. Their work was not severe and beyond eprinting an occasional quarter tnev merely jogged. Tony Victor (Groat) wae worked a mile in saddle, and another to be ridden was Realty. A three-year-old by Worthy Bond— Logan Queen, wae ridden light exercise by H. Price. She is a nice fily. Bon Zolock, now in G. Paton'e etabte, was given several circuits at jogging pace.

At Otahufau. There was a strong breeze blowing across the course at Otahuhu. The track was in excellent order, and several horses were worked on the grass. The beet workout was between AH Bell (Paton) and Lord Nepean (August). -The pair were strapped up and sent a mile and a-quarter. They ran fair time, and did their work welL Great Peter (Paul) had the hopple* en, and did serviceable work, and Paul also drove Hnghie Wallace, who gave a fine exhibition of freelegged pacing.
