MORNINGSIDE RAILWAY.

MR. BARTRAM AT NEWTON WEST.

According to Mr. F. N. Bartram, Labour candidate for Grey Lynn, his party's platform might be altered to meet the exigencies of the moment, but its basic policy will never be changed..Dealing with the Morningside railway, at the Newton West school last evening, the candidate said that the' Government's policy had been referred to in the -House of Representatives. He had asked a •question on the subject and had been informed that the survey was not completed. Subsequently the Prime Minister made a statement to the effect that the survey had been completed, and the Minister of Public Works announced that he was considering whether the plant could be supplied and men put- on. He had twitted the Government with being dilatory, and the' Government had then told Sir James Gunson what was intended. He was of opinion that the member for Suburbs, Mr. Mason, should have been informed before anybody else, but he could not-see that what had been done could be construed into the term bribery. Such a statement was impudence. Mr. Bartram characterised the members of the" United party as the most reactionary section of the Reform party. •' Mr. Bartram received a good hearing, and was accorded a vote.of thanks and confidence.
