MRSi'MAGUTRE AT GRAFTON.
■ '-The Graftqi/ Methodist Schoolroom was crowded last evening, when Mrs COB. Maguire, ? Reform candidate for Auckland East, addressed-the-electors;'- Mr. H: B. Burton presided. The candidate emphasised the right of the women of .New Zealand to a proportion of' the' direct ; representation, in Parliament. She claimed that the Reform party had-shown its progressiveness and good sense in being" the only organisation which I had ; officially nominated women'for. election. ' '**. "We: are-the right type-of women for Parliament, Miss Melville arid I," declared Mrs; Maguire, "as ; we're accustomed to public life." , ...:■, 'When on the council.l knew:when to speak and when to keep quiet, and so I ■would in Parliament." Women, she added, could make a great contribution to the national life of the country. A motion of thanks and confidence was put and declared to have been carried, only a section of the audience voting, whilst a number at the back noisily protested that they had not heard 'the motion. Cheers for the Labour candidate were given with a will.
