MAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. j I Two people were knocked down near Mangere crossing yesterday afternoon by a motorist, who disappeared without disclosing, his identity. One of the victims, Mr. R. E. Moselen, aged 38, of 60, Seavicw Road, Remuera, is in the Auckland Hospital in a serious condition. The other, Miss Jean Bridges, of Robertson Road, Mangere, was not badly injured. Travelling at about 35 miles per hour, the car came along Massey Road from Mangere. It overtook Mr. Moselen, and knocked him down, and when about ten yards further along the road, knocked down Miss Bridges. Bystanders state that the car then stopped for a moment, someone in it glanced out, and immediately drove off at a high speed. The halt was long enough f< r a quick-witted young lady who was passing to take the number, and this has been handed to the police. Both the injured people were attended by Dr. Currie, of Otahuhu. Mies Bridges was found to be suffering from a badly sprained ankle and body bruises, but •she was able to go home after receiving attention. Mr. Moselen, who had sustained con- , cussion and a lacerated face, was taken to the hospital by the St. John Ambulance, which reached the scene of the • accident thirteen minutes after receiving ; the mil at the Rutland Street station. On inquiry being made at the hospital to-day, it was ascertained that Mr. 1 Moselen had spent a fairly good night. • It is understood that the car which [ caused the accident has been officially '• identified. !. ACCIDENT NEAR MERCER. [ While riding a motor cycle near MerI cer, Mr. John Patterson, single, aged 23, of 112, Lake Boad, Takapuna, was struck by a service car, and sustained a compound fracture of the leg. He was brought to Auckland by train, and admitted to the hospital. An operation was performed, and his condition today was reported as fairly satisfactory.
