HIGHWAYS MAINTEANCE.
BOARD'S ANNOUNCEMENT

WHANGAREI, this day,
The Whangarei County Council after meeting the Prime Minister last week, made an application to the Main Highways Board for an increase in the subsidy in respect of the maintenance of roads leading off all em emain highway's in the county, urging that such increases be made retrospective from April last. This morning the council receive! a reply to the effect that a* from April 1, 1028, all expenditure on maintenance and on new bridges will be subsidised on the basis of £2 for £1, in plaec «f £1 10/ for £1. The increase is to apply to seoodary highways as well as pnmnry systems.
