NOTES FROM AVONDALE.

■ \ STAR STRANGER SCRATCHED. ; DEVELOPS LEG TROUBLE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Star Stranger was scratched for the New Zealand Cup at 10.50 a.m. to-day. He developed trouble in one of his fore legs after yesterday's gallop.

THIS MORNING'S TRACK WORK. AUSSIE AND AWARERE GO FAST. - 1 The weather was fin© for training work at Avondale this morning. The inside grass track was available and the going was good. Papatu and Schorr were the first out, and ran 6ix furlongs in 1.17 4-5, the former being a shade in front at the finish. Aussie, with the lightweight J. Day in the saddle, sprinted five furlongs in 1.2 1-5. He went well throughout.

Flying Juliet finished in front of The Lamb over five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. Valkon traversed a similar distance in 1.3, finishing on well. Monetise (Butler) ran half-a-mile in 525. Awarere, who is looking improved, ran five furlongs in 1.2 2-5. He was ridden by J. Day. Bulolo (Goulsboro) covered five furlongs in 1.3 3-5, doing it nicely. Imperial Prince ran a couple of furlongs along the back in 25 4-ss. Professor was in front of Aggressive at the end of three furlongs in 41 l-ss. Camp Prince was too good for Envoy over three furlongs in 38s. King Smock ran five furlongs in 1.6 1-5, but was not after time. Serang was a shade in front of Nassock at the finish of three furlongs in 38s. Maori Boy completed a similar task in 39 2-ss. Branson was only required to do pace work. Mint Leaf (Goulsboro) ran a mile in 1.45 4-5. Oration joined in after passing the 6ix furlong post, and the pair finished together, the last five furlongs taking 1.5. Mint Leaf did his work well. ARRIVALS. The following trainers have arrived at Avondale: G. Paul (Awarere, Papatu and Aussie), W. Stone (The Begum, Liaison and Schorr), R. A. Edwards (Flying Juliet), G. Reid (Glenstar), C. Lowe (Mangani), J. H. Wallace (Valkon and Love Call), and W. Deeble (King Smock).
