DARGAVILLE MEETING. AT AVONDALE TO-MORROW. GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED. THE PROGRAMME REVIEWED. The annual meeting of the Dargaville Racing Club will open at Avondale tomorrow. and with ttic good fields engaged there should be some interesting racing. A Division. Owing to the number of starters in the Maiden Plate, the field has had to be divided. The majority have little to their credit and betting will take a wide range. Blue Spear was fourth in a division of the Maiden Plate at the last Avondale meeting and has been going along satisfactorily in his work recently at Ellerslie. Eager Rose has also shown good form on the track, though she has failed in her three efforts this season. Fernden has been going nicely at Ellerslie recently and would only need to repeat his track work to have a chance. Most support may go to BLUE SPEAR EAGER ROSE. In the second division Brampton was second to Golden Wedding over a mile and a-quarter at the last Auckland meeting. Red Lion showed some pace in his race at the recent Waikato meeting, being one of the leaders into the straight. Monetize has been showing good form on the tracks at Ellerslie, and perhaps the best backed will be RED LION MONETIZE. The Tokatoka Handicap. Twenty-three are carded for the Tokatoka Handicap. Miss Potoa has pride of place, and was a very useful performer last season, winning three events and being placed on two other occasions out of eight starts. She won a division of the Trial Handicap, six furlongs, at the Waikato spring meeting with 8.1, the Titoki Hack Handicap, seven furlongs, at Whangarei, and the Pupuke Hack Handicap, nine furlongs, at the Takapuna spring meeting, which was her last start. Winsome Boy is pretty useful when right. He was second to Tea Time over six furlongs at Whangarei last spring, and won oyer a similar distance on the second day. He later annexed the Ferry Handicap," seven furlongs, at the Takapuna summer meeting and was second to Ohinemuri in the Eden Handicap, one mile, at Ellerslie in the autumn. Liaison finished second to Billikins in the Members' Handicap, six furlongs, at the Avondale meeting last month. Miss Mercia showed winning form at the Waverley meeting, while Hone Heke won over six furlongs at the Matamata meeting and was placed in a five and six furlong event at the Franklin meeting Maori Boy showed a lot of pace at the last Avondale meeting, dead-heating with Storm Fiend in the Mount Albert Handicap, six furlongs. Bombarder showed fair form last season, while Grand Tea scored over seven furlongs al the last Avondale meeting. Vallar wor a division of the Bombay Handicap, si> furlongs, at the last Franklin meeting while Partial Eclipse was successful ovei six furlongs at the Waikato autumi meeting last season. Kerry Dance Bulolo (who has a lot of pace and has been working well recently) and Tanerir may be the best of the others. The besi backed may be LIAISON WINSOME BOY BL'LOLOThe Hurdles. Eight are carded for the Kaihu Hurdles Quincoma has not shown much form 11 this department since he scored at Wei lington last July, but the fielcjl is not i strong one, and he would only have t' do his best to have a good show. Manga r. won at the Waikato meeting recently while Piet was third to Siaosi and Potoa nui in the Trial Hurdles at the recen Auckland fixture. Clockwork and Har bour View may be the best of those lowi down. The public will probably go for MANGANI QUINCOMA PIET. The Two-year-olds. The four topweights in the Nursery Handicap will command most attention ' Flying Prince has won two five-furlonr races —one at Avondale and the other ai the Waikato meeting last week—but h< did not have too much to spare from his stable-mate Awanmtu on the latter occa sion. Love Call won nicely over four fur longs on the first day of the Waikatc meeting, beating Awamutu, and looks a; though he will go on. Awamutu icredited with having a lot of pace, and or his showing at Waikato he is sure to rui well. Carl Idem was second to First Money in the Musket Stakes at Ellerslie and should perform prominently. Tin chief portion of the investments arc likely to go o:i LOVE. CALL AWAMUTU FLYING PRINCE. The Chief Event. Eleven are carded for the Dargaville Cup. Valkon has run most consistently this season and won the Hamilton Handicap «vith 8.8 after running second in the Waikato Cup- He has now 9.5, but should be hard to elispose of. Mint Leaf won the Members' Hanelicap, one mil? and a-quarter, at the Waikato Hunt meeting, and. finished third to Valkon ant Catkin in the Hamilton Hanelicap, and he is now meeting Valkon on 41b bettei terms than in the latter event. Desert Glow finished second in the Mitchelsoi: Cup and finished second to Mint Leaf m the Members' Handicap at the Waikatc Hunt meeting with 8.3. He is not overburelened with 7.11. Thursby won the Jellicoe Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting, while Golden Wedeling showed ability over a mile and a-quarter at the last Auckland meeting. Royal Doultor is a likely sort and shoulel be improved by her recent racing. She scoreel over a mile and a-quarter at Ellerslie last season. Papatu appears as though he i; coming on, while Alonsoa has proveel thai she can stay out the elistance all right though it is some time since she raced Sir Russell won a mile event at the Auckland spring meeting, and if Sit Archie could be relied upon to do his best he would have a good show. Perhap: the best fancied may be DESERT GLOW ROYAL DOULTON VALKON,
The Sprinters,
A smart field of sprinters is engaged in I the Avoca Handicap. Aussie and Awarere will be bracketed if they start, and they will be in request. Branson performed well at the recent Auckland meeting, winning over seven furlongs and just being beaten in a mile by Le ChoucasOration was third to Pegaway and Kingfield on the second day of the Waikato meeting, while Lady's Boy won over six and a-lialf furlongs at the Waikato Hunt Club, beating Kingfield, Nancy Lee and others. Tea Time and Te Atiawa have been scratched. Billikins has a lot of pace, while Ballvmoy 11. and The Fox may be the best of those lower down. Perhaps the public may support AUSSIE-AWARERE (Bracket) LADY'S BOY ORATION. The Awakino Hack Handicap.
They are not a very good lot engaged in the Awakino Handicap. Respirator failed at Ellerslie, but his track work shows he is on the improve. War Officer was second in a mile at Avondale and fourth in a similar event at Ellerslie. Salamander finished third to Golden Wedding and Brampton over a mile and a-quarter at the latter meeting, while Mountain Guide was second to The Lover in the Sylvia Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting, but he failed at the Auckland spring meeting. Bizarro was third in the last-named event. Tidal has shown that he has some pace and if the going is firm may run well. The best backed may be
WAR OFFICER BIZARRO RESPIRATOR. The Concluding Event. The programme will conclude with the iobson Handicap, and oil recent form the public will probably lend most support 10 KING SMOCK STORMY SCHORR. The Avondale-tramed Maori Boy has been shaping in good style in his latest track gallops, and is sure to be in demand in whatever event he is saddled up to contest at the Dargaville meeting. He dead-heated with Storm Fiend in the Mount Albert Handicap at the Avondale meeting last month, and if he can repeat that form to-morrow, he should be handy at the finish of the Tokatoka Handicap. Moari Boy is not a good beginner, and that will be somewhat against him in the big field that is likely to go to the post for the six-furlong hack event.
