RIFLE ACCIDENT.

YOUNG MAN'S SERIOUS INJURIES. LEFT LEG AMPUTATED. While cleaning an army service rifle last evening at his home in Royal Ter-nu-c, Kdendale, Mr. Arthur E. McDonald sustained a serious wound in his left leg, through the weapon exploding at short range. Mr. McDonald did not know the weapon was loaded. The bone in his left leg, half way between the knee and the ankle was shattered, while a main artery was severed.

Mr. Keith Crawford, a member of the St. John Ambulancc Brigade rendered valuable first aid, and afterwards the injured man v.ps s-ttomie-l t> by i)r. H. Pettit, of Mt. Albert. On admission to the hospital, it was found necessary to amputate a portion of the leg. The hospital authorities reported this morning that his condition was fair.
