CHEERY EXPLORERS.
Wilkins And His Men Southward Bound. CONFIDENT OF SUCCESS. - (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) . (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, October 26. Sir Hubert Wilkins has sent a cable message from Montevideo stating that the sturdy whaler Hektoria weighed anchor on the second stage of the journey to the remote ice-bound Antarctic. All the members of the expedition were cheerful and sent farewell messages. Nielson, Grossan, Porter and he were in the highest spirits, anticipating complete success. The Norwegians manning the Hektoria were a splendid lot of men, strong, willing and brave, and had greatly assisted in the careful stowing of the aeroplanes and impediments. This was essential because success and their lives depended on it. Everyone at Montevideo had been most kind. By starting that day it would mean that the expedition would reach the Antarctic, the land of blizzards, immense ice barriers and frozen mountains by the middle of November. "We are happy to be cn route to the fringe of that domain," the message states, "and are confident we can wrest from mother earth what is probably her last big secret."
