THE PRESIDENCY.

US. ELECTIONS.

Voters Roll Numbering

58,000,000.

WEIGHT OF WOMEN TELLS.

(United Service.)

(Received 12.30 p.m.)

WASHINGTON, October 26.

American citizens numbering 58,000,000 are eligible to vote at the election on November 16 and 28,500,000, or 49 per cent, are women. Throughout the nation the enfranchisement of women was established in 1920 and the highest total of women attending the polls at any election since was 9,500,000, but in previous contests, since women voted, there was no great issue like prohibition.

Both sides expect a much larger women's vote this year. In the last two elections women voted individually, just the same as men. This year it is claimed that the great preponderance of women will be found on the dry side.
