N.S.W. INCOME TAX BILL.

SPECIAL COMMITTEE SET UP.

SYDNEY, October 26.

The Premier of New South Wales, Mr. T. It. Bavin, who has encountei-ed widespread opposition to the Income Tax Amendment Bill, has agreed to appoint a special committee to consider the measure before proceeding with it in the Legislative Assembly.

■ Sweeping reforms, which, the Governmen claims, will place the burdens of taxation on the shoulders of those best able to bear them, are proposed in the Income Tax Amendment Bill, which was recently introduced in the Legislative Assembly. The provisions which are expected to provide the bulk of the Government's estimated increase of £700,000 tax revenue this year are: (1) Taxation of companies on a sliding scale, according to their profits. (2) Amalgamations of incomes of husbands -and wives for tax jmcpoees.
