GRAIN AND PRODUCE
LITTLE CHANGE IN POTATOES.

CHRISTCHURCH, Friday
The rain which began at 9 o'clock last night, and continued steadily until early this afternoon, and which has been general all over the plains, came at an opportune time, and has cheered the farmers greatly after a long, dry spell. The young wheat, which had begun to look seedy, will be freshened by the warm, quiet rain, and the prospects for good, early summer pasture and for good wheat crops are greatly improved.
The potato market has changed little during the week. The shipments this week indicate clearly that supplies in large quantity are not available. The Kahika, which is to sail to-morrow for Napier and will probably clear up all spot stocks. No orders are being received from Auckland, as merchants there will not now buy f.0.b., and sending potatoes there on consignment at this stage of the season is considered risky business. Owners of good quality wheat are holding firmly and demanding good prices for mijhng grade, 5/9 still being offered, with 0/5 to 5/6 for grain not so good Quotations for fowl wheat are unchanged Chaff is worth £3 15/ to £4 to farmers' A few inquiries have been made for next season's oats and peas, but no business has been reported yet. A grade Gartons are quoted at 3/6 a bushel, fob
