CANADA'S WHEAT CROP.

HUGE TRANSPORT SYSTEM.

TEN MILLION BUSHELS A DAY

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Monday

"The handling of the Canadian wheat crop is a gigantic undertaking," remarked the Hon. W. Nosworthy, on his return from Canada-to day. "It is nowadays a. blanch of engineering. The ground is prepared by tractors and gang ploughs, and the sowing is done by motor tractors. The latest harvesting machines are drawn by tractors and in one operation gather up the wheat, thresh it and deliver it into big motor lorries, which run alongside. "To illustrate the transportation problem, the railways had at one time assembled in the West 40,000 big wheat cars and 960 engines ready to move the grain. "When operations commenced they were moving over 10,000,000 b jsliels a dav."
