KAZEMBE BRINGS STORES.
EXPLORERS' SLOW VOYAGE.
OVERTAKEN IX PACIFIC.
Large supplies of food for Commander Richard E. Byrd's Antarctic expedition are aboard the steamer Kazembe, which arrived at Auckland this morning from New York. The stores, consisting largely of bacon, will be discharged at Dunedin, where. Commander Byrd intends tto establish his base.
The expedition is now en route to New Zealand aboard the auxiliary barque City of New York. When tHei exploration ship left New York, the Kazembe was still loading there, and did not Bail for New Zealand until September 8. The City of New York was delayed at Colon ,for repairs, and did not leave there until September 17, a day before the Kazembe. Forty miles from Colon the Kazembe overtook and passed the other vessel, which signalled that she was bound for the Society Islands. All was well with the expedition, but t ,,r> ir vessel was making very alow pr ass, averaging about 90 miles per day.
