BANKRUPT LAND POLICY.
LABOUR CANDIDATE'S INDICTMENT.
Mr. A. G. Christopher, the Labour candidate for Rotorua, addressed a meeting of electors in the Ngongotalia Hall on Thursday evening. There was a fair attendance.
The candidate stated that the Reform Government was on its trial before the bar of public opinion for broken and unfulfilled promises, and for breaches of confidence, and that political "confidence tricks" had been deliberately played upon the electors throughout the Dominion. The candidate maintained that the Government was bankrupt as far a land policy was concerned, and it had increased the interest on State advances by 1J per cent. It had introduced immigrants into the Dominion under misrepresentation, thereby increasing unemployment. The Dominion had gone back to the days of the Atkinson Government, causing the establishment of soup kitchens and doss houses.
Labour, on the other hand, represented humanity and enlightened progress, and had a message which meant the salvation of the people from unemployment, low wages, bankruptcy, financial collapse and economic stagnation. It would be to Labour that the people, seeking security and a better life, would turn.
Mr. Christopher was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks, which was carried unanimously.
