ROWING.
AUCKLAND CLUB.
The members of the Auckland Rowing Club opened the season on Saturday afternoon with a set of trial fours for club trophies. The racing was confined to last season's members and three crews competed. Splendid water conditions prevailed. The crews were:—W. Eaddy str., M. Barrett, H. Duck, A. Doull, cox. W. Johnson; J. McComish str., G. Cleal, A. Coutts, T. Wigley, cox. V. Leaning; J. Bygate str., R. Mahon, L. Rose, F. Battley, cox. F. Cochrane. Eaddy's crew got away first with the other two level. McComish gradually decreased the gap and had nearly caught Eaddy at three-quarter, distance with Bygate a length behind, when, owing to the prevalence of buoys, trouble ensued and Eaddy's crew, rowing well, came in first by a length.
