CLOSING TO DAY.

SUPPLEMENTARY ROLLS.

ISSUE OF THE WRITS.

STATEMENT BY REGISTRAR.

The office of the Registrar of Electors in the Law Court Buildings, High Street, is remaining open until 6 o'clock this evening, to receive claims for enrolment, and mails are being taken delivery of at the General Post Office up to that hour for the final enrolment of electors. At 6 o'clock the supplementary rolls will close, and any applications which reach the registrar subsequently will be added to the rolls after the general election.

The registrar (Mr. Frank Evans) stated that the writs for the general elections were issued to-day, hence the closing of the supplementary rolls. "People who come of age between now and polling day," said Mr. Evans, "are not entitled to vote at the forthcoming elections. Applicants who apply too late will not be able to vote by declaration. The only classes of persons who may vote on making declaration are the following:—

''(1) Any person (a) whose name is ruled out in red ink on any certified copies of the roll to be used at the polling booth: (b) is legally qualified to be registered as an elector of the district in which he desires to vote; (c) is not registered on any other electoral roll; (d) is not aware of any circumstances by reason of which "his name ought to be so ruled out; and (e) that he has not already voted at this election.

"'(2) Any person (a) who, having applied for enrolment as an elector, and having been informed by the Registrar that he has been enrolled has not been so enrolled, and who makes a similar declaration to the above as regards (b) (c), (d) and (e).'"
