THE ABSENT CANDIDATE.
MANUKAU ELECTORATE.
SUPPORT FOR MR. JORDAN
The only absent candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives, Mr. W. J. Jordan, the sitting Labour member for Manukau, has many friends in the electorate, judging by the enthusiastic meeting which was held last night in the Southern Cross Theatre, Ellerslie, when a strong committee was set up to further his interests.
Mr. Jordan, who left New Zealand for Canada, as one of the Dominion's representatives at the Empire Parliamentary Association's big gathering in the land of the maple leaf, will probably not return till after election day, November 14. Eulogistic references were made concerning Mr. Jordan's work on behalf of the electorate, at last night's meeting. Representatives of Epsom, Mount Roskill, Onehunga, Greenlane, Penrose, Panmure and Mount Wellington were present In large numbers. They elected a strong committee, with Mr. O. Slye, of Ellerslie, as chairman, and Mr. E. Bust, of the same district, as secretary. Arrangements are already well in hand for conducting the campaign.
