"TAKE CARE OF THE PENCE."
I have read Care of the Pence" your edition of Monday the 15th inst, and while a believer in the old adage "Take cart 'of the pence and the pounds will look after themselves" I cannot refrain from remarking that you have failed to tell all the story. Eve* if the Auckland Savings Bank did allow interest on amounts under £1 at the rate of 41 per cent the humble shilling would take roughly sixteen years to double itself, to reach the sum of £3 7/2 your friend iwuld obviously need the experiences of Rip Van Winkh several times over. The explanation would appear to be that- a certain amount of accrued interest had not been credited at the date of withdrawal. THRIFTY.
