Maxegin would do nothing right- in the Mountain Trot and he was breaking all through the race. It was a veiy poor run he gave his many backers.
Cornelian showed a lot of speed for a mile in the Improvers', but was always! a beaten mare when the final half-mile was entered upon.
Rose Bingen started twice yesterday,: once with the pacers, and later with: the trotters, but neither time did she go solid and her two performances were very disappointing.
In the Waitemata Trot Golden Ciate and Smoko Peter almost ran off the course. They were never in the picture afterwards.
Western King tangled badly at the start of the October Handicap and the: others were well on their way when' lie' struck his straps. When he did go he was not pacing with confidence.
Talent went his usual good race ; n! the Spring Handicap, but as is invarl-j ably the case with him, he failed to see ? out the last bit. He finished fifth, just' alongside Jewel Pointer.
Loch Moigh is not only a- good pacer, but he is full of grit. He took on all challenges i" the big race, and though touched off by Kohara by a head at the end, Loch Moigh fought it right out..
Worthy Bond's two-, representatives, Security and Alice Axworthy,' Showed a: fine turn of speed iti the.- Derby. Securitv looks like being particularly good later and when the small iineetin'gs'are on she should have no difficulty in winning races. " 0
Dalmeny was always bowling along, with Loch Moigh in. the lead in the' Spring Handicap over the first ipile aqjl; a-half, but when the field bunched up, he got in the crowd and was not sighted again after the straight was entered, eventually finishing last.
After pacing like a veteran for the greater part of the journey in the Derby Sonoma Child hit the 'front in the straight and looked a winner.. But when F. G. Holmes called on 'him for a final effort to withstand a ' chal]fcn"-e from Wrackler he left liis feet atid was seen no' more.
Sunfish. the favourite in the Improvers' Handicap, tangled for a couple of strides at' the start, but he did not lose much and was well up going out of the straight the first time. He was fourth turning into the straight the last time, but he failed to improve his position in the run home.
In finishing third in the Derby Trustworthy put "up a " fine performance considering that she met with an injury to one of her knees a week ago. Had she enjoyed an uninterrupted preparation is is quite on the cards Mrs. Brady's filly would have won. She is a good one without doubt, and should get good money for her owner later on.
All Bell looked very big in condition when he went out for the October Handicap, but this did not prevent him from putting up a good race. At the jumpoff he went out very fast and soon had a good break on the field. He was joined by Lady Dunmore before reaching the home turn and the pair were fighting out a rare battle when Jackie Audubon came along and beat them both. All Bell and Lady Dunmore passed the post in line, the judge declaring a dead heat for second place.
