AUCKLAND MEETING.

WRACKLER'S G.N. DERBY. KOHARA SCORES IN SPRING. JACKIE AUDUBON SECOND LEG. Postponed from Saturday, on account of bad weather, the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting was opened yesterday at Alexandra Park. This marked the first fixture of the trotting season in Auckland, and, although the weather overhead was favourable, the heavy rain which had fallen on Saturday and Sunday left the track wet and soft, consequently the times registered were slower than usual. With a fairly strong contingent of visiting horses competing the racing proved high class and the sport most enjoyable. Kohara, the 1927 New Zealand Cup winner, accounted for the opposition in the Spring Handicap, while Wrackler, one of Mr. H. F. Nicholl's Ashburton pair, took the G.N. Derby. Tiger Salve beat Great Change and Young Blake in the Mountain Trot. Taipare (second and first) and Jackie Audubon (third and first) were twice placed. The totalisator investments amounted to £35,847. Compared with the figures (£43,050 10/) on the opening day last year this .represented a decrease of £7203 10/. Later results:— STEWARDS' HANDICAP, of 400sovs. Two miles.
