SUBURBAN ILLS.
CITY'S PANACEA.
GREATER AUCKLAND SUGGESTED.
THE PENDING CONFERENCE.
DEMAND FOR TRANSPORT BOARD.
Great interest attaches to the resumption of the conference to-morrow evening between the representatives of the Auckland City Council and representatives of the Auckland Suburban .Board to discuss the transport tangle.
A conference held a fortnight ago was resultless, but since then the CityCouncil has met to discuss the matter, and although the decision has not been made public, the suburban representatives are strongly of the opinion that the panacea offered the suburban ills will be a suggestion of a greater Auckland.
"We are going to the conference tomorrow evening to discuss a transport board for Auckland and a transport board only," said one of the suburban local body delegates this morning. "If they won't discuss a transport board, I for one will feel like walking out." From inquiries made this morning it does not seem likely that the conference to-morrow evening will get very far on the road towards solving the transport tangle.
The suburban local bodies intend, if the conference is abortive, to approach the Government with a view of shearing from the Auckland council, the authority that it now has in another sphere while acting as the No. 1 Licensing Authority.
