WHIRLWIND 11. ARRIVES.
TO TAKE CATMINT'S PLACE. The English-bred horse Whirlwind 11., who was purchased by Mr. H. R. Mackenzie for the Auckland Stud Co., and will take the place of the defunct Catmint, arrived by fce Westmoreland from London this morning. He is by Galloper Light (by Sunstar) from Double Back by Bachelor's Double, and was bred by Mr. Anthony de Rothschild, in whose colours he raced. Whirlwind 11. is a dark chestnut in colour, and stands about 16.2. He is a beautifully-made horse, having a nice rein, good shoidders and quarters, and a good game head. He seemed to be an excellently mannered horse, and did not in the least appear to be upset by the trip or the number of people who entered his box to inspeet him. Next season Whirlwind should develop into a very fine stallion, and with his great pedigree is sure to command the attention of breeders. Mr. Macknezie also bought two young mares. One is Legality, by Noblesse Oblige, by The Tetrach from Honora (by Gallinule), who is the dam of Lemonora, one of the best sires in England. She is supposed to be in foal to Toulon, by Prince Palantine from Dulee Mia, who is full-sister of the unbeaten Ajax. She is a fine big quality chestnut mare aged four years. The other is Grey Eagle, a grey mare French bred out of Anthea by Thrush. These mares will arrive later.
