STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

(By WHALEBONE.)

By running second to Pale Star in the Tutaenui Handicap at Marton, Kilburn demonstrated that he will have to bo reckoned with, in his spring engagements. He is engaged in the Okehu Hurdles at Wanganui, and, having proved himself a good jumper, he should give a good account of himaoif if saddled up to contest that event. The Trentham-trained three-year-old, Staghunter, who was not started at the Marton meeting, is due to have his first race of the season at Wanganui t.hi» week. He proved hijgself a very capable galloper as a two-year-old, and much interest will be centred in his turf career during the current season. Lucklaine has been showing improvement in her track work at Ellerslie, and has registered a couple of useful gallops over six furlongs on the m-H track during the last week. T. R. George has the Australian-bred filly looking nice and solid, and she will soon be ready to race. Fair Abbey has not had a race since he won the Hunters' Hurdles at the Pakuranga meeting twelve months ago. He was brought across to Ellerslie on Saturday morning, and did strong work on the sand track, hitting out very freely. v Fair Abbey is engaged in the Kingsland Hurdles, to be run on the first day of the Avondale meeting. Teremoana, who is engaged in the Maiden race at Wanganui, second to Chamaline in the Tiratu Maiden Stakes at the Dannevirke meeting, and is reported to be a speedy hack. He is trained by Geo. New, at Awapum, and is likely to show up in his early engagements.

Day Guard has been paid up for in two events at Wanganui, which is ample proof that the Day Comet gelding has been going on the right wav in hi 3 preparation. This gelding, who is now seven years old, is one of the hardiest horses that has been racing in the Dominion during the last few years, having faced the starter on 120 occasions in the last three seasons and winning stake money amounting to £3690.

Corinax bears a very bright appearance, and has been doing plenty of sound work at Ellerslie during the last few weeks. He requires a lot of hard toil to fetch him up to his best racing trim, and he may not be right up to his top form by the time the Avondale meeting takes place. However, J. Williamson thoroughly understands the Magpie gelding, and can be depended on to work considerable improvement in this promising horse during the next few weeks.

Blimp, who showed good form at the Marton meeting last week, when he accounted for the Railway Handicap, is among the acceptors for the Marangai Handicap, one mile and 110 yards, to be run on the first day of the Wanganui meeting. The son of Gasbag and Marfaux has previously won over eight and a-half furlongs, and also finished second to Hororaea in the Connelly Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, at the last Wanganui winter meeting, only being defeated by a neck after running a great race. If started at Wanganui this week, Blimp is sure to be«strongly supported, and should run well.
