TE PUKE. The social organised for the purpose ot' bidding farewell to the Public Works employees who have been transferred as the result of the taking over by the Railway Department of the local section o£ the East Coast line, was held in the Alliance Hall on Monday evening. The evening was devoted to dancing, and a few musical items. Several of the townspeople, representing the farmers' Union, Town Board and Chamber of Commerce spoke in praise of the good work done by the Department's officials In the past 10 or 1:2 years. Mr. Mac Donald (timekeeper) replied on behalf of the guests, and thanked the committee for the very enjoyable time that they had spent. A number of the workmen have been transferred to the Taupo line, while several of the officers have received notice of transfer to different pasts of the island,
