TE AROHA JOCKEY CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT SUBMITTED. The president, Mr. R. L„ Somers, of the Te Aroha Jockey Club, has submitted his annual balance-sheet, covering last season's operations. The report states that the profit and loss account showed a credit balance of £2 11/8, as against a loss of £615 17/11 during the preceding twelve months. Ihe gross profit for the last race meeting was £1596 2/4, which, in view of the shocking weather experienced during the second day's racing, may be considered quite satisfactory. The sum of £622 19/ has been written off for depredation, and £134 (5/11 written off various accounts. Formation of the new course resulted in an expenditure of £507 14/3. Various outstanding amounts appearing in previous balance-sheets have now been wiped off, and the accounts are in a healthy condition. During the year the formation of the new course has been completed from the birdcage to the six furlongs post. This work will enable the judge'? box to be moved^ to a position nearer the birdcage, and will greatly improve the view of patrons of the inside enclosure, besides providing a better race-track for horse-owners. The lease of the racecourse reserve having expired, the committee has undertaken the work of farming and stocking same. Their operations have resulted in a profit of £206 3/4. Twenty-two new members were elected during the year, bringing the total membership up to 317. It is with regret that the deatli of Mr. A. W. Edwards, the late secretary ; is recorded. Mr. Edward? was a foundation member of the club, and for many years rendered active loyal service. Kegret was also expressed at the death of Mr. Jas. Agnew. an old servant of the club.

The balance-sheet showed subscriptions paid, £355 19/; rent of loose-boxes, £133 <>/; track fees, £51 10/; rent of course to Trotting Club, £21 10/; nominations and acceptances, £1139 10/; totalisator (gross), £7383 5/; gates, £931 19/; privileges. £290; race cards, £229 11/3, and sundries bringing the total revenue to £10,825 12/7. On the expenditure side salaries absorbed £187 18/4, wage? £200, repairs and maintenance £710 10/3. depreciation off buildings £009, stakes £4025, sweepstakes i 156, course officials £231 4/, catering £188, advertising and printing £153, totalisator tax, less rebate £250, £1111 13/6, dividend tax £2451 9/. The balance was shown as £1100 4/4.

Kidburn showed that he was coming into form when he ran second to Craigmore in the Sydenham Hurdles at Riccarton on Saturday. He is among those engaged in hurdle events at the Wanganui spring meeting, and it has to be recollected that at the Wanganui autumn meeting he finished second to Elysianor in the Westmere Hurdles and won the Fordell Hurdles.
