WINTER EXHIBITION.

TAKINGS AMOUNT TO £3551. FUNCTION GENERALLY SUCCESSFUL. Saturday evening saw the close of the 1928 Auckland Winter Exhibition, when the day's takings amounted to £358 as compared with £577 for the closing day last year. The total receipts for the ten days were £3551. a decrease of £228 as compared with 1927, when the exhibition was open for nine days. It had bee/) anticipated that this year's figures would equal, if not eclipse, those of 1927, but the weather proved a factor against this. Taking it on the whole, however, the 1928 show proved to be a most successful function, the attendance totalling over 100.000, included in which were 11.000 school children. * During the evening the Auckland Highland and National Dancing Society held a successful concert in the entertainment hall. A score or more of selected performers entertained those present with vocal and dancing items. 'The principal attraction was the appearance of the. "Midget Moselles"—a talented troup of Auckland juveniles. Speaking of the exhibition Mr. W. W. Massey, senior joint president, said it had justified itself. Notwithstanding the fact that the takings, were down a little the show had been as popular as ever. In spite of the bright outlook, however, there was still a spirit of caution evident, and there had been a disinclination among individuals to spend any more money than was necessary. For that reason the attendance this year probably included a relatively small proportion of those who had paid for admission more than once. The industrial exhibitors had expressed themselves as being thoroughly satisfied with the volume of inquiries, which were exacted to be productive of actual business.
