JOY-RIDER GAOLED.
ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT. TOOK GIRLS FOR A DRIVE. Charged with having unlawfully converted to his own use a motor car on July 12, and another on July 15, Arthur John Roberts pleaded guilty in the Police Court this morning before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Chief Detective Hammond stated that accused was a recent arrival from England. Last Sunday afternoon he took a sedan car from outside the Jewish Club, in Wyndham Street, and took three girls for a drive into the country. At East Tamaki he met with an accident, the car turning a somersault. It was abandoned, after being damned to the extent of £45. The other car he took from a street, and later returned it. "Numbers or cars have been taken recently," said Mr. Hammond, "and it is getting beyond us."
