RATEPAYERS' MEETING.
CITY COUNCIL CRITICISED. RESOLUTIONS OF PROTEST. Addresses dealing with civic affairs were given by Messrs. H. P. Taylor, J. Lundon, and W. H. Murray at a meeting held at Avondale last evening under the auspices of the Avondale Ratepayers' Association, Mr. W. Pendlebury presiding over an attendance of about a hundred The chairman referred to the steady development of the association.
Mr. Taylor replied to a recent statement by Mr. T. Bloodworth, and criticised remarks made by the latter before a meeting of the Advertisers' Club.
The meeting passed resolutions protesting against the sanctioning of further loans during the regime of the present City Council; protesting against a clause in the proposed Auckland Water Supply Bill giving power for money to be raised without sanction of ratepayers; protesting against permission being refused to investigate legal documents concerning leases of the Civic Squar-;: and asking for details of costs in connec - tion with the Huia dam proposal.
