FIRE BRIGADES' REQUEST.

NO CONTRIBUTIONS MADE. WELLINGTON, this day. ' A deputation from the United Fire Brigades Association of New Zealand waited on the Post and Telegraph Department yesterday to discuss the charges made for inst lling and maintaining fire alarm systems throughout the Dominion.
-n.iention Mas drawn to the fact that free services are rendered by brigades to the Department in all directions, and the deputation claimed that this warranted a concession from the Department in the way of reduced charges for installing and maintaining fire alarm systems, and also a reduction in charges for telephones. At present, it was stated, the Department was charging the full cost of installing and maintaining fire alarms and lines, also full rates for telephones, yet it made 110 contribution, either through rates or direct, to fire brigade* for their maintenance. The Association considered the time had arrived for a more equitable arrangement to be made. The second assistant of the Department (Mr. Esson), who received the deputation, promised that the matter would l>e looked into ami a definite reply given in a few days.
