CONSTABLE FAREWELLED.
TAURANGA, Friday. At the Borough Council Chambers last night, a number of citizens gathered to bid farewell to (/unstable Clifford who has been transferred to Kerepeehi. Mr. A. Tudhope occupied the chair, and made reference to the thorough and tactful manner in which Constable Clifford had discharged his duties during the six years he had been stationed here. Mr. Tudhope, on behalf of the many friends of Constable Clifford, made a suitable presentation as a token of their esteem. Constable Clifford has taken a keen interest in Rugby football, boxing and other sports, and acted as selector to the Tauranga Rugby Union for several seasons. Mr. G. 11. Ollard, on behalf of the Justices' of the Peace, Constable A. Skinner and Mr. E. J. Gifford, clerk of the Magistrate's Court, spoke of the sterling qualities of the departing officer. Constable Clifford suitably acknowledged the presentation, and said that his stay in Tauranga had been a pleasant one.
