IjADIES' night at the club. MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. Ladies' night at the Auckland Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Club is always looked forward to by members and their friends alike, and Saturday evening was no exception to the rule. There was a large attendance in the Social Hall when Mr. Walter Prentice, president of the c-lub, extended a hearty welcome to the guests. The first part of the evening was taken up with a splendid concert, items being contributed by Mr. <T. Littler, Mrs. Dec, Mr. D. Weir, Mr. J. I Stewart. Mr. A. Allan and Mr. .T. Williams. Mr. A. F.. Saunders accompanied in his usual capable manner.
In announcing the second half of the programme tlie chairman said items, both concerted and otherwise, would be given by the club's concert party, members of which had been instrumental in raising funds throughout the Auckland provinc* lor hospital and charitable purposes. Last year visits had been paid to Waihi. Rotorua, Paeroa ami Te Kuiti and a sum aggregating £400 had been raised for the purposes named at those places. This season the concert party would open at Rotorua on June 15 to continue the good work. The party deliglitetf with their varied programme, and each item met with loud and prolonged applause. Those assisting were Miss Dorothy Youd (soprano). Miss Matha Williams (contralto), Mr. Jack Church (baritone), Mr. Dudley Wrathall (baritone). Mr. Rex Yates (dry humour) and Mr. H. G. Tollerton (humorous sketches). Mrs. H. G. Watts is the accompanist, and the organiser and general director is Mr. H. G. Watts, to whose credit much of the success of the entertainment was due.
Subsequently members and their giics!* were entertained to supper in the spacious and prettily decorated luncheon roon; in
the basement. Visitors had the free-lom of the club and many ladies engaged 111 billiards. After supper there was daminc in the social hall to the music of a splendid jazz orchestra. The guests as they left the club were loud in their praises of the evening's entertainment, which Was voted one of the best in its history.
