NORTHERN MEETING.
TRAINING WORK AT ELLERSLIE THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS. COMICAL JUMPS BIG COUNTRY WELL. A strong, cold southerly wind prevailed at Ellerslie this morning for training work, and it made tlxe conditions unpleasant for spectators. • No. 1 grass track was open for fast work, and though tho going had slightly improved, it was still holding. lour hurdles were ercted on th'e outside of the course pi-jper, while the steeplechase course was also available. There was ail interesting schooling task over the big fences when Comical, Importer, Tuki, Glendowie, Geyserland, Mashoor, Maunga and Perle de Leon worked together. Comical finished in frout, but they all jumped well. However, the pace was slow throughout, and that 'somewhat detracted from Comical's performance. No. 1 Grass. Royal Tea defeated Thursby in a run from the live-furloflg post, which took 1.7 3-5. Royal Tea impressed.
Parfait Amour was sent over seven furlongs, and, without being hurried, covered the distance in 1.44 2-5. Another horse interfered with him during the running. Segment sprinted half a mile in 54 1.-53. Corinax (Cammick) had P.iet to assist him over the first part, and The Thorn to bring him home over the concluding stage of a round. Corinax galloped well throughout, and beat The Thorn at the finish. The time was 1.57 1-5, which was a good gallop. Storm Fiend ran seven furlongs in 1.37* 1-5. Lomint (Henderson) and Princess Ronnie (Wiggins) set out over a round. Lomint led till the top, where Princess Ronnie ran up to her, and though the latter finished a shade in front, Lomint appeared to bo going the better when the post was reached. The time was 1.57 4-5, the last seven furlongs taking 1.30 1-5. Sir Archie (Henderson) hopped off at the seven-furlong post, but he was not hurried over the early stages, and took 1.41 for the journey, the last half-mile being run in 54 2-as. Bulolo and Sir Mond were together at the end of four furlongs, the last three furlongs occupying 38 4-ss.
Ballymov 11. and Hyde Park were together at the end of ifour furlongs in ;"ils, .Sir Russell and Lido taking 51 l-5s for* a similar task.
Beau Cavalier (Garrett) went a round, the last mile taking 1.54 3-5.
Nucleus appeared as though she -was to go with Dave and. Master Doon over six furlongs, but jumped away in front of them. Her rider attempted to pull her up, but then went on, and she ran home in 1.20 4-5. Dave and Master Doon finished together in 1.21 3-5, the last four furlongs taking 52 3-ss.
Karamu did strong work over a round, but was not timed.
Brampton and Miss Myrtle ran six furlongs in 1.23.
Judge's Box was in front of Tidal over half a mile, which was run in 51 l-ss.
Blue Spear, Killute and Royal Trek finished as named at the end of seven furlongs iir 1.37.
Respirator covered six furlongs in 1.29, but was not doing his best at any part of the journey.
Cynthia N. ran a round in 1.58 l-ss, and went verv freelv.
Arcli Queen and Harbour View were timed to run their last half-mile in 51 4-5?. the former having the advantage at the finish.

Scot Free (Chaplin), Mrtunt Mart; l . I -Tarvis) ami A exatiotis (Mcßreartvi started out over four hurdles. Scot Free was soon in front, but at the third obstacle Yexatjous fell. Scott Free beat Mount ilarta easily. The time from the first hurdle to the last htinlle was 1.1.'1. Kilbnrn (C'orlett) went over four hurdles in the centre and jumped safely. Aberfe'dy (lilson) and Arclieno (Garrett) were sent over four hurdles on the course proper. Areheno showed to most advantage over the first hurdle, but there was little between them at the otlici obstacles. Aberfeldv was gointr the better at the end. but all the same Areheno gave a good display for a begincr. Salamander (Ilealey) and Cullgie (McGregor) set out over five hurdles on the course proper. Salamander had a good advantage along the back and also as thev commenced to cross the top. but fell two hurdles from home, and HeaK, his rider, sutlered a fractued thigh. Cullgie was nearlv down at the same hurdle, but finished' up the task safely. Salamander was going well up to the time of the mishap Ilealey was sent to hospital. Peneus (A. McDonald) and Bed | Fuchsia (Baker) were allotted a schooling task over five hurdler on the course proper. Along' the back they were joined by Marble Mount (Mephan). who got away in front of them and staved jthere till the finish, l'eneus being second, but Bed I'uchsia was close up, and was going the best of the trio. Timed from hurdle to hurdle they ran the iournev iin 2.17.
Odin (Mephan). Star of the East (11. Dulieu) and Pomncins (Chaplin) were sent over four hurdles on the cour-e proper. Ponipeius fell at the last obstacle. Odin finished in front of Star of the East, and v.»i s going nicely throughout. The time from hurdle to hurdle was ].T> 3-.~).
Mister Gamp (McDonald) went over four hurdles on the course proper niceiv, but had no pace on. He afterwards ran seven furlongs on the sand.
Llewellyn (TiNon). Kauri I';uk (]f. Dulieu) and Prince Papa (Mephan) were sent over four hurdles o, v the course Proper and finished as named. The time from hurdle to hurdle was 1.12 ]The two first-named pleased bv their display.

in that order. They all gave a good display of jumping, but there was no real pace on. Comical gave the best display he has yet given at Ellerslie, while Tuki, Glendowie and Importer also pleased.
Brigadier Bill (Alan McDonald) and Ruby Ring (Alister McDonald) set out oxi a similar mission. They jumped the sod wall, water jump and stone wall safely, although they were fencing very slowly and high. Ruby Ring refused "at the brush, and Brigadier Bill, after negotiating this fence, was pulled up to wait for him. However, Ruby Ring again baulked, and was not further persevered with. The pair were pulled on to No. 1 grass track and did strong work over seven furlongs.
Clockwork (Olive), Marita (Henderson), Betty Zane (H. Dulieu). Master Noel (Sharkey), and Rafferty (Carmont) were associated in a schooling bout over the big fences. They all jumped safelv till the stonewall was reached, where Rafferty blundered and lost his rider. The other four went on over the brush and tip the hill, where Betty Zane and Master Noel stopped at the first fence. Clockwork was in front of Marita at this stage, and he finished up over the fences on the flat. Clockwork and of Marita. Betty Zane and Master Noel jumped the fences on the hill when tried again, and completed their task over the fences o nthe flat. Clockwork and Marita gave a good display.
