"COLONIAL."
Just as the Secretary of State for the Colonies has become the Secretary of State for the Dominions, so the Royal Colonial Institute, founded in 1868, is now the Royal Empire Society. Probably the change was inevitable, but while it is true that the Dominions have become nations, one wonders whether the objection to '"colony" is*quite so wide and deep as some suppose. Certainly it suggests a condition of subordination and early development, but it is rich in honourable memories. Our fathers and grandfathers who pioneered this country were quite content to be known as colonists, and for their sake, if for nothing else, the word "colony" should be held in honour. Moreover, "colonial" will continue to be necessary. There is no other generic term for an overseas , man or woman or point of view. One would hardly refer to Mr. Brown of Calgary or Taumarunui, as a "Dominionite " and if he is -wise he will not in the least 'being referred to as a colonial, .
