DECISION ON THURSDAY.
The fate of Allan George Norgrove (28), who was sentenced to death at the Siipromo Court for tho wilful murder of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Ernestina Mary Norgrove, at New Lynn, on March 7, will ho finally decided by the Governor-Gene-r.il-in-Council, nt Wellington, on Thursday next. Mr. Allan Moody, who appeared for Norgrove, has received a telegram from Mr. B. L. Dullard, Controller-General of Prisons, stating that a further medical examination of tho murderer ha# been decided upon. This will be carried out at Mount Eden Prison during the coming •week, and will bo performed by an independent doctor. Until this examination has been made, J)r. R. M. V. Beattie, who gave evidence at tho trial, stating that Norgrove was insane when ho commtted the murder, will not be permitted to again examine tho condemned man, but may afterwards <lo ho, if it is deemed necessary. Tho petition seeking a reprieve for Norgrove, which has been in circulation .wince Tuesday last, will be presented to the Governor-Ceneral by Mr. Allan Moody, at Auckland, on Tuesday next. This petition must, and will, be handed to tho Executive Coupcil for their consideration at Wellington on Thursday j>ext. It is customary to allow three clear Sundays to pass after a murderer has >>ceii sentenced to death. As Norgrove V us sentenced to hang by Mr. Justice Mcfiregor on Tuesday, May 15, the next week-end will be his last if his execution is decided upon.
