COOLIDGE REBUKED
Congress Overrides Four
Vetoes.
ONLY A FEW SUPPORTERS,

(Received 9.30 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, May 24
The President, Mr. Coolidge, received a most decisive Congressional rebuke of his whole administration to-day, when the Senate in a little more than an hour overwhelmingly overrode his veto on four bills.
First it passed two vetoed postal bills making them law, and then it passed the Indian Lands Bill and an emergency Officers Retirement Bill. The last two measures must still be acted upon by the House.
This is the first time that Congress has failed to heed Mr. Coolidge's veto, with the exception of the Soldiers' Bonus Bill. Only a few Republican regulars supported the President in the voting. FARM RELIEF VETO. Effect On The Republican Convention. VERY DIFFICULT POSITION. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) WASHINGTON, May 24. President Coolidge's second veto on the McNary-Hangen farm relief bill, which was designed to aid in the stabilisation of the agricultural industry, is likely to have a momentous effect upon the Republican National Convention. Mr. C. G. Dawes, Mr. F. O. Lowden and other pros{>eetive candidates have supported the bill, and the caustic wording of the veto makes the political position of all who desired the bill to pass extremely difficult. Apparently the President used this means to check the movement to commit the party to the bill by its candidate and platform.
