ONE-ARMED EX-SOLDIER.

"It is not very creditable to the council to bring this case before the Court," said Mr. L. A. Mcintosh. J.P., when H. W. Lamb, a returned soldier with one aim, was charged among others with having failed to pay his rates. The amount involved was £4 6/. Defendant said lie was prepared to pay, but the council had not given him a culvert to liis farm, although the money was voted for the purpose twelve months ago. Mr. Mcintosh remarked that there appealed to be victimisation somewhere. Defendant was married and had a family of six, and he was doing his best to work a farm in the Far Xortli.
